Papers, 1950-1955.

The collection consists mostly of letters James A. and William Perkins sent to their parents, Dr. James J. and Marion Perkins, while serving in the armed forces from 1950 to 1955. Their letters do not go into great detail about specific tasks and duties of military service, but do offer a glimpse of military life at the time. In particular, James Perkins wrote about his experiences of being posted near the front lines during the Korean War. His letters also indicate he served in the Air Police Squadron, and was generally involved in law enforcement activities while stationed in Korea and various domestic posts. William Perkins, who entered service later, was an assistant in a military dental clinic at Leipheim, Germany. He would generally write about his personal and social life, and his aspirations to pursue a career in dentistry like his father. The letters of both brothers also contained a considerable amount of news and discussion about family and friends.
